Lock rekeying / Tucker, GA

Keep the door.
Rethink the key.

A working lock can still have the wrong keys in circulation. Discuss rekeying when the aim is to change key control, and confirm whether the existing hardware is suitable.

What do you want the old key to stop doing?

Start with the reason for the change. A move, a lost spare or a staff handover may leave you unsure who has a copy. List the entrances involved and identify the old key arrangement. Rekeying concerns the key that operates suitable existing hardware; replacing a lock changes the hardware itself.

That distinction does not mean every lock should be rekeyed. Hardware condition, compatibility and the desired result need to be considered. If the key is difficult to turn or the door no longer latches reliably, describe that too. A lock repair request may need to be discussed alongside the key-control goal.

02

One property can contain several access systems.

A Tucker home might have a front door, side entry and a keyed door to the garage. A business may have a private suite door and a separately managed common entrance. Make the list before discussing whether compatible locks can use a shared new key or need separate keys.

A garage remote, electronic entry code and physical door key are not interchangeable controls. Changing one does not establish what happened to the others. Our guide to shared and private doors helps separate the permissions and the people responsible.

03

Agree on the result before the work.

For a Main Street suite or Northlake property, give the actual building, unit and affected entrance. Identify the owner or authorized manager, particularly when the change affects more than your own private door. Avoid circulating a public description of key codes or other sensitive access details; discuss necessary information directly.

Ask which locks are included, whether the old key should cease operating each named lock, how many new keys are included and how the new arrangement will be checked. Confirm current availability and the estimate scope before approving work. The page describes rekeying requests, not an all-brand or master-key-system capability claim.

For this request, prepare the actual address, affected hardware or vehicle, what still works and the authorized contact. The estimate questions help clarify proposed work before approval.

Before arrangements

Two useful
questions.

Can every door use one new key?

Only suitable compatible hardware can support the proposed arrangement. List the doors and ask whether a shared-key setup is appropriate.

Will rekeying fix a latch that misses the frame?

Changing key control does not establish the cause of a closing or latching problem. Describe the door behavior separately so the proposed work addresses the actual issue.

A useful next step

Tell us what changed.
We’ll start there.

Give the address, the affected door or vehicle and the result you need. Call to discuss support, current availability and the scope before approval.
